Running

Since I just reported on my Ultimate Fitness Challenge, I might as well report on my running too. I ran the Race to the Taste 5K on Labor Day. The race is part of the Taste of Hudson. I ran it last year too. I improved my speed by about 30 seconds per mile and this year came in third place in my category (women over 50). It’s the first time I’ve ever won anything for something sports related! The picture here is me getting my winning t-shirt.

In less than two weeks, I’m running the fifth leg for a relay team in the Akron Marathon. I’m nervous about this one. It’s 5.6 miles which is the furthest I’ve ever run. I’ve been training but I never feel like I really know what I’m doing.

Happy New Year!

It’s 2015 and that time to reflect on the past year and set goals for the new.

I ran my first race in 2014 and went on to run two more. So, I ran two 5Ks and then one 5 mile. I ran a bit more quickly in the second 5K than I did in the first so that was good. When I ran the 5 mile race, that was the furthest I’ve ever run.

So for 2015 I figure I might as well keep going. I don’t have the desire to run long distances but I want to keep running the shorter races. I signed up for a relay team for the Akron Marathon next September. I think all of the phases for the race are a bit over five miles. It will be good to have a team to train with.

On the professional side of things, I quit my regular job in 2014 and began to work for my own business. My new company is WhitePoint Professionals. My goal for 2015 is to build my company so that I have a steady stream of business. Right now I’m working on getting the website developed and accounting details taken care of. More on this later.

So, it looks like 2015 will be a busier year than last year.

Accomplished!

I did it!! I managed to run my 5K. I ran the whole way despite the hills (oh, they were killers). I also was not last. Those were my two goals. Perhaps not the weightiest goals but I met them. It was more difficult than I expected. I’ll need to practice more outdoors.

This is one of those things that I probably would never have done if my husband was still alive. I’ll never know, obviously, but it just seems like I started this as something to accomplish. I never thought of myself as a runner so I’m proud that I managed to run a race.

Running

I’m all over the place lately, I know. Now I have decided to take up running. I’ve been using the Couch to 5K app to learn how to do it. (Here’s the link to what I’ve been using: http://splendid-things.co.uk/getrunning/) It’s great. I love this British woman and her kindly ways.

So I’ve been doing this and then telling Steve, the trainer at the gym about how I’ve been running using this app. He kept telling me that I need to sign up for a 5K race and that if I can do what I’ve been doing, no reason I can’t run a 5K. He convinced me and I’m running a race this coming Saturday. It’s the Hop for Hope at Hale Farm. http://www.hopforhope.org/

I’ve never been an athlete of any kind; I’m not sure why I decided to do this. We’ll see how it goes. Wish me luck on Saturday. I hope to finish and run the whole race.
