Running

Since I just reported on my Ultimate Fitness Challenge, I might as well report on my running too. I ran the Race to the Taste 5K on Labor Day. The race is part of the Taste of Hudson. I ran it last year too. I improved my speed by about 30 seconds per mile and this year came in third place in my category (women over 50). It’s the first time I’ve ever won anything for something sports related! The picture here is me getting my winning t-shirt.

In less than two weeks, I’m running the fifth leg for a relay team in the Akron Marathon. I’m nervous about this one. It’s 5.6 miles which is the furthest I’ve ever run. I’ve been training but I never feel like I really know what I’m doing.

Foundations

It’s great how many meanings there are to the word foundations. I’ve been fixated on the foundation that holds up my house.

I’ve been working on getting someone in to repair the foundation in my house. Oh, what a mess. I have cracks in the foundation walls. I gather that they need to be repaired but according to the various men who have come out to look at it, they have all seen worse. Apparently this town is full of houses with cracking foundations because the place is full of clay. I, however, lie in bed at night worrying that my house is going to collapse.

Plus, while worrying about my house, at the same time at work, I was writing a class on structural damages in houses. Sometimes the world just hits you over the head. Repeatedly

Five estimates from five different companies. Prices ranged from $5250 to over $30,000 and everyone had different ideas as to what to do. I chose one of the lesser priced solutions. I think it will work. The guy I went with was a name I got from a friend. Then the woman who does my taxes gave me the same name and then last night I met some friends at the local wine bar and one of the women also knew the guy and was very positive on him. So, three personal references work for me.

Now he just has to get me on the schedule I guess. Contractors do not have the finely honed communication skills I would like.

Hudson High School

Hudson Explorers LetterRecently I was talking with a retired teacher who remembered having Dave in class. A retired science teacher was there who could have had Dave but we finally figured out that Dave would have had a different teacher for physics.

I did not attend Hudson High School. It’s weird to be discussing Dave’s high school experience when I wasn’t here for it.

I told them that Nick is taking physics this year, also at Hudson High School. The retired science teacher asked me which teacher and I told him. So, he knew that Nick was taking Honors Physics.

Dave’s mother also attended Hudson so that’s three generations of Explorers.  I guess I should be an enthusiastic school backer!

It was just odd. Living in Ohio, nobody knows much of anything about where I went to school.
